Water droplets hang like jewels on spider webs in these photos by Evan Leeson

Anthony Michael Simon doesn’t produce his own art, instead he lets spiders do the work for him.

About the work:

Chicago native Anthony Michael Simon first discovered the artistry of the silk-producing arachnids while trekking through a forest in Korea, where he is currently based, looking for a location for his next sculptural art installation. He came across a huge spiderweb and it somehow clicked in his mind that he could catch spiders and have them naturally spin their webs in his studio.

Stamen Design has just released a visualization tool that transforms web maps into works of art. It’s available in three styles and was made possible through funding by the Knight News Challenge. The News Challenge is part of Knight Foundation’s $100 million plus Media Innovation Initiative, which rewards “new ways to meet community information needs in the digital age”.

This video is just a teaser for the really cool interactive web project baroque.me by Alexander Chen.

About the project:

Baroque.me visualizes the first Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suites. Using the mathematics behind string length and pitch, it came from a simple idea: what if all the notes were drawn as strings? Instead of a stream of classical notation on a page, this interactive project highlights the music’s underlying structure and subtle shifts.

The fun begins when you interfere with the trajectories of the white balls causing a disruption to the rhythm and flow of the piece. Why just watch when you can play?
